Highlights from the FOOD2030 Networks Conference in Brussels

Last week, Open Food Facts was in  Brussels for the FOOD2030 Networks Conference on Transformative Food System Innovation. Pierre and our two favorite Belgian ambassadors April and Ben dove headfirst into a 3 days conference to represent Open Food Facts.

April & Ben, our Belgian ambassadors, exceptionally studious during the conference. 😉

Hosted by the CLEVERFOOD project and backed by the European Union, the conference was a melting pot of workshops and inspiring talks. But what really stood out was the opportunity to connect with other members of food-centred European projects, food enthusiasts and change makers.

Pierre presented our work with Eco-Score and environmental labelling at a large scale, in a round table discussion on environmental impact labelling.

The panel talked about the path to generalization of environmental labelling at the European level.

It was interesting to hear different perspectives and discuss ideas for empowering consumers to make better choices. The panelists ranged from consumer-oriented organizations and public actors to food industry lobbies (who routinely attend these kinds of conferences).

Beyond the formal sessions, the conference buzzed with energy as we mingled and networked with organizations like Ecsite, the European association of citizen science, EIT Food as well as representatives of the European Commission, ADEME. From policymakers to researchers, the diversity of attendees was as enriching as the conversations we shared, and we’re hoping to see exciting collaborations from these newfound connections!

But this was not the end of our Brussels journey, and it was also the occasion to see  Eco-Score in real life, on real products, at the Colruyt supermarket.

👈 Pierre, comparing options in Colruyt thanks to the Eco-Score.

We also had great discussions with Test Achat/Test Ankoop, a Belgian consumer association.

Armed with fresh ideas and a renewed sense of purpose, we’re eager to continue our mission at Open Food Facts, making the food industry more transparent for all.

See you soon Brussels 🇧🇪🍻
