Open Food Facts recognised as a digital public good

Open Food Facts recognised as a digital public good

Today, Open Food Facts was added to the Digital Public Goods Alliance DPG Registry.

The goal of the DPGA and its registry is to promote digital public goods in order to create a more equitable world. Being recognised as a DPG increases the visibility, support for, and prominence of open projects that have the potential to tackle global challenges. To become a digital public good, all projects are required to meet the DPG Standard to ensure that projects truly encapsulate open source principles.

Open Food Facts is thrilled to be counted as a digital public good alongside many other incredible open source projects working to achieve the sustainable development goals. 😃 This is a collective accomplishment by the Open Food Facts community of contributors, participating daily to make our open database what it is.

What’s a digital public good?

According to the UN Secretary General’s Roadmap for Digital Cooperation, digital public goods are open-source software, open standards, open data, open AI systems, and open content collections that adhere to privacy and other applicable laws and best practices, do no harm, and help attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Digital Public Goods Alliance is a multi-stakeholder initiative endorsed by the United Nations Secretary-General, working to accelerate the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals in low- and middle-income countries by facilitating the discovery, development, use of, and investment in digital public goods.

Thank you to the DPGA for including us in their registry !
