Summer news from Open Food Facts

It’s summer at Open Food Facts, so we sat down for a little Q&A!

We asked a few teammates to share what’s been happening behind the scenes.

What are they working on? What’s coming next?

What’s happening at Open Food Facts this summer?

Mélanie

We hope your summer is going well, whether you’re by the beach, in the city, or enjoying a quiet break. ☀️

On our side, we’ve been preparing our biggest annual event, launching a new price challenge and planning what’s coming next.

What are we most excited about in the coming months?

Gala

Definitely the Open Food Facts Days 2025! We’re so looking forward to welcoming the community again!

Join us in Paris, September 13–14!

Académie du Climat (Paris, France)

Two vibrant days of talks, workshops, food transparency and community connection! 🧡

This year, there will be two main tracks setting the tone for the weekend’s workshops :

A Beginner’s Track: this is about leveling up as a contributor, discovering different aspects of the project and learning new skills ! This track is accessible to all levels, especially to newcomers

An Open Everything Facts Track: in addition to Food, our community tackles other types of data, such as beauty products, generic products with a barcode, prices… this will be an occasion to dive into those !

Got other ideas ? Add them to this doc.

And follow the evolving program on the event wiki.

Let’s hear it from you ! Watch some of last year’s visitors share their experience of this event ⬇️

Any new challenges we can take part in this summer?

Raphael

Open Prices challenge #3: Ice Creams & Sunscreen Edition 🍦🧴

We’ve launched the Open Price challenge #3, and this time, we’re tackling the data of seasonal favorites: ice creams, sorbets and sunscreens!

Join the collection by scanning prices of these products at your local stores and supermarkets. The more prices we collect, the more useful and open this information becomes for everyone.
