Scan Party in Guyane: Learning to decode food labels for better grocery choices

At Open Food Facts, we are always excited to see our tools used to empower people toward better food choices. That’s what happened recently in Guyane during a Scan Party organised by the Mutualité Française Guyane (MFG) at the Local Mission of Centre-Est Savanes.

This event was part two of a workshop series dedicated to balanced nutrition as a lever for social and professional inclusion.

The Scan Party invited young participants to explore the pros and cons of food products by scanning and analyzing them using tools like Open Food Facts and the Nutri-Score. They learned to spot marketing traps, understand labels, and shop smarter even on a limited budget, with a concrete and playful approach.

A special thanks goes to Vanessa Izéros, the event’s facilitator, and the Mission Locale Centre-Est Savanes for their essential work with local youth and for inviting the Mutualité Française Guyane to lead this important workshop. The Mutualité Française Guyane is mobilised to ensure that health and nutrition are accessible to all and we’re proud that Open Food Facts could be part of this mission.
